If laughter is the best medicine, The Coopers Inn has been like a pharmacy over the last month, the venue has hosted some of the greatest comedians from across Australia at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, one of which was Billy D’Arcy.

The 28-year-old who hails from the Northern Beaches of Sydney, delivered 11 sold out shows at The Coopers Inn to cap off a successful debut at the festival.

Having seen D’Arcy perform his ‘4th Grade Ratbag’ show on his last tour to Melbourne in 2022, this event was highly anticipated, tickets were booked well in advance and a great night awaited.

The Coopers Inn was buzzing as people sat downstairs having meals and drinks before the show and before everyone knew, it was 8.40pm and a sold out crowd walked upstairs.

The man of the show strolled past the line cheering and throwing his arms up in the air as he walked into the small room, with a beer in hand to do what he does best.

The visual image of D’Arcy standing in front of a room of strangers with a mic in one hand and a beer in the other, his most colourful party shirt on, his luscious locks dangling, as well as the trusty converse and jeans combination is truly iconic.

His new show ‘Reckless Pelican’ included some of his hot takes on cricket scandals, applying for lacklustre admin assistant roles, working on the best advertisements of the century and engaging in some light narcotic use with his own father.

He entertained the room as he picked on people in the crowd to find something to rip into them about, our group was lucky or unlucky enough to be put in the hot seat at one point.

However, after a couple minutes of laughing hysterically as we were slandered for our degrees, he continued with the show as the crowd applauded our involvement.

On his podcast ‘Get Around Me’ which has gathered him lots of supporters, he spoke about the show.

“First show was last night, it was a hot one; I’m not going to mince words, it was a great show (and) thanks to everyone who came out,” D’Arcy said.

The 28-year-old is great at connecting with his fans and making sure they have a great time, as he caught up with crowd members for a beer and a chat after the show.

Billy D’Arcy has a knack for comedy and is fast becoming one of the next big things in the industry, remember the name.
