COLLINGWOOD has made it 10 wins on the trot after a 13.10 (88) to 12.10 (82) victory over Port Adelaide at the MCG on Saturday.

A six-goal opening term was not enough for the visitors, as the Pies took control after quarter time.

In what was a spiteful start to the game, Travis Boak kicked the first goal before the ball was even bounced.

However, when the ball was finally bounced, Collingwood added high volumes of pressure around the ground, forcing repeat entries inside 50.

Last week’s hero Jamie Elliott put through the first for the Pies, before Ash Johnson kicked truly from 50.

Port Adelaide would go on to put through the next five goals, which included a 50-metre penalty to Boak.

Their high kicking efficiency gave the Power a four-goal buffer, but late goals to Jack Ginnivan and Jordan De Goey reduced the lead to 12 points at quarter time.

In the second term, it was all Collingwood, who lifted its pressure immensely around the ground to take a five-point lead at the main break.

A three-goal to nil quarter failed to do it justice for the Pies, with opportunities gone begging at times.

De Goey and Ginnivan were the only goalkickers for the term, with the latter adding two to his tally.

Josh Daicos also capped off an impressive half with 12 disposals and six intercept possessions.

Darcy Byrne-Jones and Travis Boak both went down into the rooms during the second quarter for separate issues, but both returned.

The same can’t be said for Collingwood, with Taylor Adams who was subbed out of the game with a groin injury.

Port Adelaide started the second half in the best possible fashion, as Zak Butters goaled in the first 20 seconds.

Although the Magpies took full control after that, kicking four in a row, including two from Will Hoskin-Elliott.

Sam Powell-Pepper gave Port a glimmer of hope, with an outstanding dribbling goal from the boundary, to bring the margin back to 17 points in favour of the black and white at the final change.

Despite Elliott putting through his second early into the last quarter, Port Adelaide never lost hope, as Sam Powell-Pepper kickstarted a valiant fightback.

Butters would goal shortly after, before Carmichael aimed to become the match saver for Collingwood once again, but back-to-back majors for the Power with a minute remaining, brought the margin to within a straight kick.

During the flurry from Port Adelaide, Jeremy Howe was ruled out for the rest of the game with a quad issue.

The Pies however, would stay composed once again as they have over the last month, clinching their 10th consecutive win.

Collingwood set up a mouth-watering clash against Melbourne on Friday night, while Port Adelaide will look to salvage what’s left of their finals hopes when they battle against Richmond at home this Saturday night.

The 3 votes

3. Josh Daicos

The Magpies winger solidified his case for All-Australian selection once again with another emphatic performance. 26 disposals and seven marks helped put his case forward, but it was the seven intercept possessions which proved to be vital for Collingwood today.

2. Jordan De Goey

Coming back from injury, De Goey put on a dominant display, amassing 23 disposals (13 contested) and kicking two goals. He helped lead the second-quarter fightback from the Pies.

Also vital in the second term for Collingwood, Ginnivan was back to his best kicking three goals in the first half.
